Cosmetic Dentist Sunshine Coast

Your Local Cosmetic Dental
Team in Alexandra Headland

Thinking about a smile makeover, fixing a chipped front tooth, or finally getting your teeth whitened before a big event? You’re in the right place. Looking for a Dentist Sunshine Coast locals actually trust? Currey & Jorgensen Dentistry has been the cosmetic dentist of choice for Sunshine Coast families for decades, and our practice in Alexandra Headland is set up to help you work out what’s actually right for your smile, not what looks good on a brochure.

Cosmetic dentistry covers a lot of ground these days, and our dental services run the full range. Some patients walk in wanting a single porcelain veneer to match a tooth they damaged years ago. Others want a full smile makeover ahead of a wedding or milestone birthday to feel real confidence in front of the camera. Whatever you’re considering, our team will sit down with you, listen properly, and talk you through your options in plain English before any treatment starts.

Why Choose a Sunshine Coast Cosmetic Dentist?

There’s a real benefit to choosing a Dentist on the Sunshine Coast who lives and works in your community. You’re not driving to Brisbane for a consultation, then driving back for adjustments, then driving back again if something needs tweaking. Cosmetic work often involves multiple visits over weeks or months, and having your dentist twenty minutes away matters more than people realise.

Beyond the convenience, here’s what sets our Alexandra Headland clinic apart:

Experienced clinicians who’ve seen it all. Our principal dentist, Dr Peter Jorgensen, has practised on the Sunshine Coast since 2000 and holds a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) from the University of Sydney. He’s joined by Dr Michelle Pitt, Dr Andrew Robinson, and Dr Fiona Campbell, each with their own areas of expertise across general, cosmetic, and implant dentistry. Between them, our team has placed thousands of veneers, crowns, and implants, and finished countless whitening treatments.

Honest conversations about what’s realistic. Not every smile concern needs the most expensive treatment. Sometimes a simple whitening session does what someone thought required veneers. Sometimes the opposite is true. We’ll tell you what we genuinely think, including when we don’t think a particular dental procedure is the right call.

Personalised treatment planning. Your teeth, your bite, your gum line, and your goals are all unique. We build treatment plans around your situation rather than running you through a one-size-fits-all process. That includes pacing the work in stages if you’d prefer to spread things out.

Quality materials and proven techniques. We use high-grade materials, work with trusted local dental laboratories, and stick to techniques with a strong track record. It’s part of why cosmetic results from our clinic tend to last.

Comfort, communication, and aftercare that actually continue. A lot of cosmetic dentistry success comes down to what happens after the chair work is done. We’ll show you exactly how to look after your veneers, crowns, or whitening results so they last as long as possible.

Our Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments

Below is a rundown of the cosmetic treatments we offer at our Sunshine Coast practice. If you’re not sure which is right for you, that’s exactly what the initial consultation is for.

Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments we offer, and for good reason. It’s relatively quick, non-invasive, and can make a noticeable difference to how your smile looks. We use controlled bleaching agents at concentrations available only through a dental practice, which is why the results are more reliable than those from over-the-counter strips or kits.

Before any whitening treatment, we’ll assess whether you’re a suitable candidate. Some patients have staining that responds beautifully to whitening, while others have intrinsic discolouration (sometimes caused by certain medications or tooth trauma) that whitening won’t shift. We’ll also check that your teeth and gums are healthy enough for the treatment, because applying bleaching agents to teeth with active decay or sensitive gums can cause real problems.

We strongly recommend speaking to a qualified dental professional before using any whitening product, including the ones sold in pharmacies. Incorrect use can damage tooth enamel and irritate the gums.

Porcelain and Composite Veneers

Veneers are thin layers of material bonded to the front of your teeth. They can address chips, gaps, stubborn stains, mild misalignment, and worn edges. We offer both porcelain and composite resin options, and the right choice depends on your goals, budget, and the appearance of your underlying teeth.

Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory from a mould of your prepared teeth. They have a natural, translucent appearance that mimics real enamel, and they’re stain-resistant. With proper care, they typically last about 10 years before needing replacement. Porcelain veneers usually require two or three visits to complete.

Composite resin veneers are applied directly to your teeth in a single visit. Your dentist shapes and sculpts the resin onto the tooth, then cures it under a special light. Composite is more cost-effective than porcelain and easier to repair if it chips, but it typically needs replacement sooner and is more prone to staining over time.

One important thing to know: preparing a tooth for veneers usually involves removing a thin layer of enamel, and this step is irreversible. We’ll always walk you through exactly what’s involved before you decide to proceed.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are custom-made covers that fit over an existing tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. They’re often recommended after root canal treatment, when a tooth has a large filling that’s starting to fail, or when there’s not enough natural tooth structure left to support a standard filling.

We offer porcelain crowns for visible teeth where appearance matters most, gold crowns for back teeth where durability is the priority, and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns where you need both strength and a natural look. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, crowns can last 10 to 15 years or longer.

You can read more about our dental crown options here.

Dental Bridges

Bridges replace one or more missing teeth using artificial teeth anchored to the teeth on either side of the gap (or to dental implants). They restore your ability to chew properly, prevent the surrounding teeth from drifting, and fill in the visual gap when you smile.

We offer traditional bridges (the most common type, supported by crowns on the adjacent teeth), cantilever bridges (used when there’s only a tooth on one side of the gap), Maryland bridges (often used for front teeth, bonded to the back of adjacent teeth with minimal preparation), and implant-supported bridges (anchored to implants rather than natural teeth, which preserves the structure of surrounding teeth).

Dental Implants

For patients missing one or more teeth, dental implants are widely considered the gold standard replacement. An implant is a titanium post that’s surgically placed into the jawbone, where it integrates with the bone over several months and acts as a replacement tooth root. Once healed, a crown, bridge, or denture is fitted on top.

Dr Peter Jorgensen leads the implant work at our practice, drawing on his postgraduate qualification in oral implants from the University of Sydney. The full implant process includes a thorough assessment (X-rays, bone density check, general health review), the surgical placement, a healing period, and then the final restoration.

Implants aren’t suitable for everyone. You need adequate bone density, healthy gums, and good general health for the implant to integrate successfully. We’ll do a full assessment before recommending this option, and we’ll be straightforward with you if we don’t think it’s the right path. More details are available on our dental implants page.

Clear Aligners

If your main cosmetic concern is crooked or misaligned teeth, you may not need veneers at all. Clear aligners (including well-known systems like Invisalign) gently move your teeth into the right position using a series of custom-made plastic trays, and they’re virtually invisible while you wear them. For teens and adults who want straighter teeth and more confidence in their smile without traditional metal braces, this is often the most discreet option. Visit our clear aligners page for more information.

Smile Makeovers

Sometimes a single treatment won’t get you where you want to be. A smile makeover combines multiple cosmetic treatments into one planned approach, usually staged over several months. A typical makeover might include whitening to even out tooth colour, veneers or crowns to fix shape and alignment, clear aligners if there’s significant crowding, and occasionally gum contouring to balance the gum line.

The starting point is always a proper consultation where we discuss what you want to change, what’s realistically achievable, and the sequence of dental treatments that will give you the best result. We’ll also walk you through expected timelines so you can plan around any big events, and you’ll leave with a clear picture of how the work will rebuild your confidence in your smile.

What to Expect at Your Cosmetic Dentistry Consultation

The initial consultation is where most of the important work happens. It’s not a hard sell, and you won’t be pressured into making a decision on the spot.

Your consultation will usually include:

A full oral examination

We assess the health of your teeth, gums, bite, and existing dental work. Any underlying issues (like active decay or gum disease) need to be addressed before cosmetic work begins.

A proper conversation about your goals

What do you want to change? What’s been bothering you? Are you working towards a specific event or timeline? The more we understand what you’re hoping for, the better we can match the treatment to the outcome.

Photographs and sometimes impressions

These help us plan the treatment and show you what’s possible. For more complex makeovers, we may use digital planning to give you a preview.

Clear information on options, timelines, and costs

You’ll leave with a written treatment plan that covers everything, including anaesthesia fees, follow-up visits, and ongoing maintenance.

No pressure to commit

You can take the plan home, think it over, and come back when you’re ready.

After treatment, we provide aftercare guidance and schedule follow-up visits to check on how things are settling. Cosmetic work needs ongoing dental care to look its best over the long term, and we’ll show you exactly how to care for veneers, crowns, or whitening results so you get the most out of your investment.

Payment Options for Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a meaningful investment, and we’re upfront about that. During your consultation, you’ll get a complete breakdown of the costs for each treatment, including any laboratory fees, anaesthesia, and follow-up appointments.

We offer flexible options to help make treatment more accessible, including payment plans for larger treatments, health fund coverage where applicable (we accept all major health funds and offer on-the-spot HICAPS claiming for any portion that’s covered), and the ability to stage treatments over time so you can spread the cost across months rather than weeks.

If cost is a concern, please raise it during the consultation. We want quality dental care to remain accessible for Sunshine Coast families, and there’s almost always a way to plan the work that suits your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The lifespan of cosmetic dental work depends on the treatment, the materials used, and how well you look after your teeth. Porcelain veneers generally last about 10 years before they need to be replaced. Composite veneers tend to need replacement sooner, usually within five to seven years. Crowns can last 10 to 15 years or longer with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. Teeth whitening results vary based on diet and lifestyle, with most patients getting a year or two from a professional treatment before they want a top-up. We’ll give you specific expectations for your treatment during the consultation.

Suitability depends on your oral health, the condition of your teeth and gums, and what you’re hoping to achieve. Most cosmetic treatments require healthy gums and adequate tooth structure. If you have active gum disease, untreated decay, or significant bite issues, those usually need to be addressed first. Some treatments (like implants) also depend on factors like bone density and overall health. We’ll do a full assessment at your consultation and give you a straight answer about what’s appropriate for your situation.

Most cosmetic procedures involve minimal discomfort. Teeth whitening is non-invasive, though some patients experience temporary sensitivity for a day or two afterwards. Veneer and crown preparation involves shaping the tooth, so local anaesthetic is used to keep you comfortable during the appointment, and any tenderness afterwards is usually mild and short-lived. Dental implant placement is a surgical procedure, but it’s done under local anaesthetic (with sedation available if you’d prefer), and most patients describe the post-operative discomfort as less than they expected, manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. We’ll talk you through what to expect for your specific treatment before you commit, so there are no surprises on the day.

There’s a fair bit of overlap. Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing damage and replacing missing teeth to bring back function (so you can chew, speak, and bite normally). Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your smile. Plenty of dental procedures do both: a crown restores a damaged tooth and improves its appearance, an implant fills the gap left by tooth loss, and veneers can fix a chipped tooth while also evening out your smile. When we recommend a treatment, we’ll explain how it addresses both the functional and the aesthetic side.
