Why Oral Health Matters
Good oral health is about far more than a beautiful smile – it’s closely linked to your overall health and wellbeing. Untreated tooth decay, gum disease and other dental conditions can lead to pain, infection and even complications that affect the rest of your body. Regular visits to your dentist are your first line of defence, helping to prevent minor issues from becoming serious problems.
At our dental clinic in Alexandra Headland, we encourage patients of all ages – including children – to make preventive dental care a priority. Routine check-ups, professional cleaning and early treatment are the most effective ways to keep your teeth and gums in great condition.

Common General Dentistry Procedures
General dentists treat a wide variety of dental conditions. Here is an overview of the most common procedures we offer at CJ Dentistry.
Initial Consultation
Your first visit is a chance to meet your dentist, discuss your concerns and establish a personalised care plan. We’ll assess your oral health, take any necessary X-rays, and walk you through your treatment options so you can make informed decisions.
Do I need to book a particular type of consultation if I have specific oral pain or symptoms?
If you are booking in for your first visit, please let our staff know if there is anything urgent – such as a specific pain, a broken tooth or the first signs of infection – so we can tailor your first appointment accordingly. If you’re considering more complex cosmetic work or dental implants, please also mention this when booking.
How much does it cost?
A standard initial exam costs $86, and a more complex initial exam will cost $122. If an OPG x-ray of your teeth is required, it will cost $152.
Fillings
Fillings are one of the most common dental services we provide. When tooth structure is lost due to decay or trauma, a filling restores the tooth’s shape and function. We offer white composite resin fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, as well as durable gold and porcelain options.
What types of fillings are available?
We offer white fillings (porcelain or composite) and gold fillings. Gold is the most durable long-term option, while porcelain fillings are both strong and colour-matched for a natural look. Composite resin is a popular tooth-coloured material that bonds directly to the tooth surface and is virtually invisible.
How long will my filling last?
The materials we use are hardwearing and bond strongly with natural teeth, so it will typically be several years before a filling needs replacing. We regularly check the condition of all restorations and recommend replacement before they begin to leak or wear.
Dental Check-Ups & Cleaning
Regular dental check-ups allow us to detect decay, gum disease and other conditions early, when they are easiest – and least expensive – to treat. Professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar build-up that brushing alone cannot, helping to prevent cavities, gum disease and bad breath.
Emergency Dental
Dental emergencies don’t wait for business hours. We are happy to see patients after hours for pain, trauma, broken teeth, sports injuries and infection. If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, contact us as soon as possible.
Root Canal Treatment
A root canal may be necessary when the pulp tissue inside a tooth becomes infected. The procedure involves removing the infected tissue, filling the hollowed chamber with an antibacterial material, and protecting the tooth with a crown to prevent further damage.
What are the chances of root canal treatment not working?
The vast majority of patients who undergo root canal treatment can expect a functional, comfortable tooth afterwards.
Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth Removal
Sometimes a tooth is too damaged by decay, disease or trauma to be saved. In these cases, extraction may be the best option to protect your overall oral health. We also perform wisdom teeth removal when these teeth cause pain, crowding or risk of infection.

Cosmetic Dentistry Options
Looking for more than just general dental care? We also offer a range of cosmetic dental services to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted, including teeth whitening, dental veneers and clear aligners. Learn more about our cosmetic dentistry services.
Choosing the Right Dental Clinic
Finding a dentist you trust is one of the most important decisions you can make for your oral health. When choosing a dental clinic, consider the experience of the dental team, the range of dental services offered, the clinic’s approach to patient care, and whether the practice accepts your health fund.
At Currey & Jorgensen Dentistry, our hand-picked team of general dentists, hygienists and support staff are committed to providing professional, gentle care in a comfortable environment. We welcome patients of all ages and are proud to serve the Sunshine Coast community from our Alexandra Headland practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
What services are included in general dentistry?
General dentistry covers a broad range of dental services designed to maintain and improve your oral health. These include routine check-ups, professional cleaning, fillings, root canal treatment, tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, emergency dental care and preventive treatments such as fluoride application and dental sealants. Your general dentist is also trained to identify early signs of gum disease, cavities, oral cancer and other conditions.
Why is preventive dental care important?
Preventive care is the foundation of good oral health. Regular dental check-ups and cleaning help detect problems like decay and gum disease early, before they require more extensive – and costly – treatment. Preventive care also helps you maintain healthy teeth and gums, avoid pain, and reduce the risk of dental conditions affecting your overall health.
How do I choose the right dentist for my needs?
Look for a dental practice that offers the services you need, has experienced and qualified professionals, and makes you feel comfortable. Reading patient reviews, checking health fund acceptance, and visiting the clinic for an initial consultation are all good ways to find the right fit. At CJ Dentistry, we offer a welcoming first-visit experience so you can get to know our team before committing to treatment.
What are the common treatments provided under general dentistry?
The most common general dentistry treatments include dental check-ups, cleaning, fillings, root canal therapy, extractions, and emergency dental care. General dentists also provide preventive advice on oral hygiene, diet and care for your teeth and gums at home to help you maintain a healthy mouth between appointments.
How often should I visit the dentist for check-ups?
Most dental professionals recommend visiting your dentist every six months for a routine check-up and cleaning. However, some patients may need more frequent appointments depending on their individual oral health needs. Your dentist will recommend a schedule that’s right for you based on your dental history and current conditions.
