How clear aligner treatment works

Step 1: Consultation and 3D scan

Your dentist examines your teeth, bite and gum health, then takes a digital 3D scan. From that scan we map exactly how your teeth will move, stage by stage, and you see the projected result before anything starts. You will also get a clear quote and timeline at this visit.

Step 2: Your custom aligner series

Invisalign or Spark manufactures a series of trays unique to your mouth. You wear each set for 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to the next set roughly every one to two weeks as directed. Each tray nudges your teeth a little further along the plan.

Step 3: Progress reviews

We review your progress at our Alexandra Headland practice every six to eight weeks. Visits are short: we check the fit and tracking, answer questions, and hand over your next trays.

Step 4: Retainers to hold the result

Teeth drift back if nothing holds them, whichever method straightened them. Once treatment finishes you move into retainers, usually worn full-time briefly and then at night. Skipping retainers is the most common reason results relapse, so we build them into the plan from day one.

Spark aligners vs Invisalign

Invisalign made clear aligners famous, and many patients searching for Invisalign on the Sunshine Coast are really looking for the treatment category rather than one brand. Spark is a clear aligner system built by Ormco, an orthodontic manufacturer with decades of history behind fixed braces. The treatment experience is the same in the ways that matter: a 3D-planned series of removable trays, worn 20 to 22 hours a day and changed on a schedule.

We offer both Invisalign and Spark at our practice; Spark’s aligner material is designed to be clear and stain-resistant with trimmed, comfortable edges. Whichever brand you choose, the bigger factor in your result is the planning and monitoring behind the trays, which is why treatment here is managed by our dentists from scan to retainer.

How much do clear aligners cost on the Sunshine Coast?

Cost depends on how far your teeth need to move and how many trays that takes. Minor corrections need fewer aligners and less time; full treatment of both arches costs more. In Australia, clear aligner treatment commonly ranges from around $3,500 for minor single-arch cases to $9,000 for complex full treatment.

Your consultation quote will itemise what is included, such as scans, all aligner stages, review visits and retainers. Many health fund extras policies contribute to orthodontic treatment, and interest-free payment plans are available through the National Dental Plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Minor corrections can finish in as little as three to six months. Moderate cases typically take 6 to 12 months, and complex full-mouth treatment can run 12 to 24 months. Wearing your trays the full 20 to 22 hours a day is the single biggest factor in staying on schedule.

You will feel pressure for a day or two each time you change to a new tray, which is the aligner doing its job. Most people describe it as tightness rather than pain, and it settles quickly. There are no wires or brackets to rub or break, which is one reason many adults prefer aligners.

Take them out for anything other than plain water. Eating with trays in can crack them, and hot or coloured drinks can warp or stain the plastic. The routine becomes second nature: trays out, eat, brush, trays back in. That removability is also why there are no food restrictions during treatment.

Yes. We provide clear aligner treatment using both Invisalign and the Spark system. Both work the same way: a digitally planned series of removable, near-invisible trays changed every one to two weeks. At your consultation we assess whether aligners suit your case at all, and explain exactly what your treatment would involve.

No. Teeth move at any age provided your gums and bone are healthy, and a large share of aligner patients are adults in their 30s to 60s. The pre-treatment check covers gum health first, and any active gum disease is treated before aligners begin so your teeth move safely.

Call us. Depending on where you are in the sequence, we may have you wear your previous tray or move to the next one early while a replacement is made. Do not just skip ahead without checking, as that can push a tooth off track. Keeping your old trays for a week or two gives us a fallback.
